IFFCO Strengthening “MAKE IN INDIA”

The company was formally launched today at IFFCO’s head office in New Delhi. The logo of newly formed company was exchanged between Mr. Balvinder Singh Nakai, Chairman, IFFCO & Mr. Masakazu Sakakida, Chairman & Managing Director, Mitsubishi Corporation India Pvt Ltd.

Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), the largest producer and marketer of fertilisers in the country, strengthening the “Make in India” campaign started by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India by joining hands with the global player in agrochemicals business, Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan, to form a Joint Venture Company “IFFCO-MC Crop Science Private Limited.” IFFCO will hold 51% stake in the company & rest will be with Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan. The company will manufacture the quality agrochemicals in India that will start operation in this rabi season starting from this month only (October’15).

IFFCO managing director and CEO US Awasthi said, "With this foray into agrochemical business, IFFCO wishes to fulfil its commitment towards farming community and will enlarge its services specially to them and agricultural sector."

On the formation of this JV; Mr. B S Nakai, Chairman, IFFCO said that as a cooperative for the farmers, we were getting continuous demand from farmers across the country to make available good quality insecticides, fungicides and weedicides apart from quality fertilizers, which IFFCO is supplying through cooperative societies.

The operations of this new joint venture will start from this rabi season. IFFCO-MC will come up with 20 different products across various product ranges of agrochemicals.

IFFCO is looking forward to have its own production units in India as a long term goal.

Training of Kisan Bandhus by IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited

IFFCO Kisan is deepening its engagement in rural areas through progressive farmers designated as Kisan Bandhus. Kisan Bandhus are farmers who lead a group of 15-20 farmers within their community and act as information hub for the fellow farmers. Kisan Bandhus help the farmers in their groups, in strengthening their income generating activities by disseminating the information provided by IFFCO Kisan.. Kisan Bandhus also provide IFFCO Kisan with any specific requirements of their farmers groups for creating community specific content.

During the month of August, 2015, IFFCO Kisan has organized a series of training programmes for Kisan Bandhus. The purpose of organizing the sessions was to enhance the capacity of the Kisan Bandhus as information providers and information seeker as well as facilitator of information dissemination amongst farmer communities for different inputs and services. Another important aspect of organizing the programmes was to develop the Kisan Bandhus as community leaders. The training programmes covered various subjects like best agriculture techniques, government schemes, Farmers Producer Organisation, IFFCO Kisan portal, awareness on Agro- inputs and services, risk management and rural development.

The training programmes were initiated from 11th & 12th August, 2015 at Bhubaneswar and followed on 13th, 18th, 21st, 22nd and 25th of August, 2015 at Mandya (Karnataka), Kalol (Gujarat), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and Pune, (Maharashtra), respectively.

The events witnessed participation of experts from various organizations like NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), HelpAge India, IFFCO, IFFCO-TOKIO General Insurance Company (ITGI), State Agricultural Universities, KVKs (Krishi Vigyan Kendras ), Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board, State Horticulture and Agriculture Departments, Co-Operative Rural Development Trust(CORDET), UCO bank, Ministry of Medium Small & Micro Enterprises and National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited(NCDEX) along with team of IFFCO Kisan. In all, about 350 Krishak Bandhus from the selected districts attended these training programmes.

NABARD officials explained about various schemes sponsored by them, formation of Kisan Club and formation and operations of FPO (Farmer Producer Organization). HelpAge India, a leading charity organization in India working with and for disadvantaged elderly explained various schemes for senior citizens and also briefly explained about their HelpAge Advantage card. Application forms for availing Advantage card for senior citizens were also distributed during this event. Very interactive discussions were held by the Scientists from SAUs/KVKs about the issues related to field crops, importance of crop planning, soil testing, organic farming etc. ITGI explored different insurances for groups and their relative advantages to the farming community and enlightened the trainees on the procedure to settle claims. NCDEX informed Kisan Bandhus about the working of the NCDEX and E-Bazar and how it helped the farmers to get remunerative prices and gave access to markets all over the country.

Mr. Sandeep Malhotra, CEO, IFFCO Kisan also interacted with Kisan Bandhus at Bhopal and exchanged views on various issues related to rural development. Participant Kisan Bandhus shared that they liked the conceptual knowledge gathered with respect to importance of soil testing and organic farming specially vermicomposting. They also appreciated the efforts of IFFCO Kisan in creating farmers group in the villages and educating them about various income generating activities.

CSR Activities done by IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited at Ghori Village,Palwal,Haryana on 26th July 2015

The Ghori village in Palwal District of Haryana witnessed a medical health camp for the first time on 26th of July, 2015. People of all age groups walked towards Rajkiya Kanya Uchya Vidyalaya (Government Girls Secondary School) with excitement where the camp was organized. The long queues could be seen trailing outside the consultation rooms where the people discussed their health problems with the doctors who had accompanied IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited officials to this village for providing relief to the village community. A community, which has been feeding the urban population, but whose health needs have been overlooked. The nearest health facility is miles away at district Headquarters.

With a team of 5 doctors, a pharmacist and a lab technician, the IFFCO Kisan officials went to this village with just one thought in their hearts, to serve those who provide food to us. The camp started at 11 am and went on till 2 pm. Dr. Seema, who has been practicing abroad for the past couple of years, enthusiastically spoke to the shy women about health issues. Meanwhile, in the adjacent room, the male doctors along with another female doctor checked the blood pressure, conducted blood sugar test etc. and gave free consultation and medicines.

At the same time the children readily lined up to get their height and weight measured by Mr. Ganesh Das, Assistant National Head Sales. During the process they happily agreed to entertain us with the stories and poems they had learnt at school. This effort of the children was awarded with candies and sweet meats.People walked back to their homes happy, satisfied and with medicines.

This camp could not have been a success without the able support of Mr. Subhash, IFFCO Kisan coordinator of the village. After conducting the camp for 3 hours and providing free consultation and medicines to everyone for free, our team bid adieu to the village of Ghori with the promise to return next month with some new activity up our sleeves.

Visit to Pusa Krishi Vigyan Kisan Mela

A group of senior officials from Head Office, including Chief Executive Officer, Advisor -IKSL, Head (VAS) and Consultant (Content) visited Pusa Krishi Vigyan Kisan Mela (IARI Agriculture Science Farmers Fair) on March 11, 2015. The group visited field demonstrations on high value vegetable cultivation and also showed keen interest in PUSA Digital Soil Test and Fertilizer Recommendation (STFR) Kit developed by IARI.

IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited bags ‘CSI Award for Excellence in IT – 2014’

The CSI has instituted these awards to benchmark excellence in IT across various verticals. Projects from various organizations that have made effective use of ICT, Mobile, Social media, Cloud & Innovative Technologies, for achieving excellence, are vetted by senior industry leaders, consultants and academicians. IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited was short listed along with twelve other organizations and were invited to make a presentation before an eminent jury on 20th Feb 2015 at Mumbai. The awards were announced on the same day in a solemn ceremony specifically organized for the purpose. IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited was presented a trophy, certificate was presented a trophy, certificate. The CSI Award for Excellence in IT’ Award is an endorsement for IFFCO Kisan’s efforts to leverage mobile phone for the purpose of empowering Indian farmers. The Award provides further inspiration to IFFCO Kisan’s Team to leverage ICT to convert a simple mobile phone into a life-long power-house of information and knowledge, leading to informed decision making and empowerment of our fellow citizens living in villages of the country. IFFCO Kisan has joined hands with ICRISAT to promote the sustainable “Krishi Vani” model for desired farmers. The MOU was signed between Shri S. Srinivasan, Ex-CEO (IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited) and Shri William D. Dar, Director General, ICRISAT on 5th July, 2013, to provide agro advisory to the Subscribers. Through this agreement, the enrolled farmers receive upto four voice messages on agri-related and other useful information every-day. Other services provided by IFFCO Kisan are also available to the farmers. IFFCO Kisan is also providing specific messages to Community on common areas of interest.

MOU with National Innovation Foundation - India (NIF)

IKSL entered into an agreement with National Innovation Foundation - India (NIF) to develop content, both audio and visual, on technological innovations, improved plant varieties developed by farmers and herbal practices pertaining to agriculture for disseminating the messages to the subscribers. The MOU was signed between Shri S. Srinivasan, CEO of IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited and Dr Vipin Kumar, Director and Chief Innovation Officer – NIF on 20th Feb., 2014 to leverage synergies for dissemination innovations and innovative practices across the country and also to encourage and identify innovations in the villages.

President Obama

The vision of IFFCO in promoting IKSL as an institution for promoting rural empowerment received international recognition with the President of the United States of America, Mr. Barack Obama visiting the Agriculture Expo at St. Xavier's College in Mumbai on November 7, 2010. He was appreciative of IKSL's initiative and in particular stated "It is a Great Idea. Do it across the world.Great Work. Keep it up."
